It is both secular and relatively modern depending on the place. In Les Menuires, the emblematic bell tower is contemporary, celebrating the passage to the year 2000.
The Brelin building proudly overlooks the Croisette district, labelled “remarkable heritage of the 20th century”, it is also visible from afar, and is an integral part of the Belleville heritage.
Les Menuires bell tower
To mark the arrival of the year 2000, the resort built a bell tower on the EspaceMaurice Romanet, which has become asymbol of the resort, visible from every sector. Its elegant, tall structure was designed by architect Yves de Preval and constructed by architect Jacques Facy.
The following year, a multipurpose hall was built at the foot of the tower, which is now home to a fresco created by André Chaffardon in 2016. (Inspired by the mountains, it evokes themes close to the Belleville Valley’s heart: the summits, Le Cochet, Le Péclet, pastoral life, Notre Dame de la Vie and the Alpine pasture hamlet of Les Bruyères).
Le Brelin apartment building in Les Menuiresdates back to 1972 and overlooks La Croisette area. Listed as a work of “remarkable 20th century heritage,” it was designed by architectsDouilletandManeval.
Its slender shape evokes the sense of a ship docked on a slant, a genuine “snow liner” that also conjures up images of the old sanatoriums built in the sunniest spots.
The facades of thisimposing building (which has 640 co-owners)were builtout of local slate from the valley, which blends in perfectly with this pioneering area of the resort.
