The Cheval Noir in the Belleville Valley is a summit of the Vanoise massif, it culminates at 2832m and dominates the east side of the Col de la Madeleine facing the Lauzière massif.
It is shared between the Savoyard communes of Saint François Longchamp in the Maurienne and Les Belleville on the slopes of the Tarentaise.
On arrival, at 2832 m, a splendid art sculpture, the rearing Black Horse is waiting for you. 360° view on the whole chain of the Lauzière and its satellites: Le Grand Perron des Encombres, Pointe du Mont du Fût, Aiguilles de Peclet and Polset, Mont Brequin, or further afield, Aravis chain, Massif des Ecrins, Vanoise glaciers, Pic de l'Etendard, Mont-Blanc, up to the Dent d'Hérens and the Matterhorn.
